Lost in Translation, 2017
Performance

Lost in Translation, done in collaboration with Neda Moshg, is a performance piece that expressed the sense of diaspora that exists in both the performers and the Guild in Toronto, Ontario. The Guild has a long history of being a refuge for artists and outcasts alike and recently, the city of Toronto has approved the decision to build a wedding venue over some of the land. In protest, artists created pieces that exhibited their anger at the city for approving the build on such an important historical aspect of Toronto. Lost in Translation is a spoken word performance done in both Persian, Arabic and English. While one performer speaks in their mother tongue, the other attempts to translate for the audience what the foreign language is saying knowing it will never deliver the accurate story or tell the full narrative.
