Daf (2023)

Goat Hide, Rawhide lace, Olive oil, Stool 

A Halal goat hide sourced from last Eid’s slaughter wraps a plasma-cut copper ring. The pattern on the copper echos an AI language that mixes both Arabic and Hieroglyphics created by prompts provided by the artist. The hide and the copper are bound together using rawhide lace threaded through both materials. 

 

I invited Nabeela, a community member and a Lebanese Daf player, to accompany me as I activate my version of the Daf. The following is an iteration of this activation.
